While other countries’ most common dreams are about dogs, falling teeth, or being pregnant, new research shows that Singapore’s most common dream is about infidelity.

World Sleep Day (March 18) is fast approaching, thus prompting luxury bedding retailer Secret Linen Store to conduct a Google data study search to discover what people from all over the world search for when it comes to the meaning of their dreams.

“As dreams are often our worries or deepest thoughts emerging, a few eventful years have clearly led to more active minds during sleep, resulting in people turning to Google to find out the meaning behind their dreams,” said Alessandra from digital marketing agency Propellernet who shared the findings.

Based on Secret Linen Store’s study, people worldwide dream about dogs the most.

In the United Kingdom, the most common dreams involve being pregnant, while in Brazil, it’s mice. Dogs, followed by snakes, are common among people’s dreams in Asia.

However, the findings for Singapore are a bit different, with Google users searching for answers to their marital cheating-related dreams.

Secret Linen Store also provided meanings to the dreams, with cheating indicating multiple possible reasons depending on who is included in the act.

“For example, cheating with a work colleague may not mean you want to pursue things in reality, more that you may admire a quality about them,” said Secret Linen Store.

“It could also be raising feelings about past infidelity that you are still trying to process. If you are still harbouring insecurities about a past relationship or even in yourself, it can present itself in the form of something such as you or a partner cheating in your dreams.”

“Dreams are often our worries or deepest thoughts emerging, so shouldn’t always be taken literally, as it’s often your body’s way of processing complex emotions,” it added.

The company used the Google Keyword Planner to analyse the worldwide search data for 185 countries over 390 different common dreams.

“As the last couple of years might have felt more nightmare-inducing than a calm backdrop for a good night’s sleep, we were keen to see how this might have impacted what we’re dreaming about around the world,” said Secret Linen Store co-founder Molly Freshwater.

“It’s interesting to see that dreams actually do differ depending on where you live, but also comforting to know you’re not alone when it comes to dreaming about snakes or ex-partners.” /TISG
