SINGAPORE: The country will be visited by two members of the British royal family this year, with Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, coming to Singapore within a fortnight.

The brothers are the sons of King Charles III and Diana, Princess of Wales, who passed away in 2007. Prince William, 41, is next in line to the throne, while Prince Harry, 38, is fifth in the line of succession, after his brother’s three children, Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5.

Prince Harry and Prince William are reportedly estranged. Prince Harry and his wife and children have made their home in the United States.

The Duke of Sussex is set to hit the polo pitch for the Sentebale ISPS Handa Polo Cup on August 12, where he will be competing for the Royal Salute Sentebale Team.

In 2006, the Duke founded Sentebale with his good friend, Prince Seeiso of Lesotho. The charity aims to help uplift young people who have poverty, inequality, and HIV/AIDS in Southern Africa.

The ISPS Handa Polo Cup has raised over US$14 million (S$18.7 million) since 2010.

“The funds raised this year will support our Clubs and Camps programme, which provides intensive psychosocial support to young people living with HIV,” Prince Harry said in a statement, adding, “We are delighted to return to the renowned Singapore Polo Club in August, and are once again enormously grateful for the polo community and our sponsors, in particular ISPS Handa, for their ongoing commitment to Lesotho and Botswana’s youth.”

Prince William created the Earthshot Prize in 2012, inspired by US President John F. Kennedy’s Moonshot mission to land a man on the moon within ten years.

There are five categories, Protect and Restore Nature, Clean Our Air, Revive Our Oceans, Build a Waste-Free World and Fix Our Climate, with winners receiving over US$1 million (S$1.33 million). /TISG
