Graphic videos of a man using a chopper, and two other knives, to viciously slash a woman said to be his wife in a gory incident that occurred on Thursday (April 14) are circulating online.

Various videos caught the man assaulting the woman in an alley with a kitchen knife in what appeared to be a shocking, and bloody attack on the victim.

At one point, the woman lay on the ground by the curb while the man slashed her multiple times with the chopper.

The victim was covered in blood while she tried defending herself in a curled position.

Despite the handle of the chopper breaking, the man picked up the blade alone and continued the attack.

Reports noted that the man walked into the nearby hotpot restaurant kitchen to grab a second knife.

Multiple staff from the other restaurants used whatever items they could gather to throw at the man and separate him from the victim.

A chef threw a chair while others used containers, signboards, rubbish bins, and an iron barbecue plate.

Others used longer items such as ladders to try and prod the man away from the woman without getting too close.

They also warned the attacker that the police had already been called.

Although the items hit the man, he was undeterred and went back into the kitchen to get another knife.

As he exited from the back door, the man noticed that there were multiple people gathered at the scene.

He then decided to cut his neck and wrist in an alleged self-harming attempt, which was also caught on camera.

At about 5:30 pm, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) responded to the case. SPF officers eventually tasered the man in one of the eateries.

In a Facebook statement on Thursday, SPF confirmed that the 46-year-old man had been arrested for his suspected involvement in the attempted murder of a 41-year-old woman believed to be his wife.

The woman was conveyed conscious to the hospital.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the man had allegedly attacked the woman with a chopper, said SPF.

Several members of the public intervened to help the victim and prevent the man from causing further harm to the victim.

“Prior to the officers’ arrival, the man was believed to have slit his own wrists with a chopper. The man was subsequently arrested, and he was conveyed conscious to the hospital. The chopper was seized,” said SPF.

Police investigations are ongoing.

“The Police would like to commend the members of the public who had intervened to prevent the man from causing further harm to the woman,” said Assistant Commissioner of Police (AC) Jeremy Ang, Commander of the Central Police Division.

The man will be charged in court on April 16, 2022, with attempted murder under Section 307 of the Penal Code.

Those found guilty of the offence of attempted murder will be liable to life imprisonment, imprisonment of up to 20 years and a fine, or both.
