A screenshot from the Deepavali video greetings of Minister for Communications and Information Josephine Teo has drawn many comments from netizens, a number of whom found one particular part to be cringe-worthy.

At the beginning of the video, which Ms Teo posted on her Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram accounts, her voice is heard saying “The significance of Deepavali is the triumph of light over darkness.”

Unfortunately, at the same moment she is saying this, the tall and fair-skinned Ms Teo can be seen standing beside a smaller darker-skinned woman who is helping fix her sari.

And in fairness, this moment is over on the video in less than a few seconds, however, a Redditor posted a screen grab of it on Wednesday morning (Oct 26), and netizens have not been very pleased.

“Josephine Teo posted a very funny Deepavali post,” Reddit user Loose-Length-5521 wrote, with a screen grab taken from the Minister’s LinkedIn page.

“Handled with the JoTeo subtlety we all have come to expect,” wrote one commenter.

Others seemed puzzled at first.

But Ms Teo had defenders of her own on the post, saying that the poster had read too much into Ms Teo’s greetings.

However, “Cringe level max,” wrote another commenter.

“Minister for Communications and Information what message are you trying to send?” commented yet another.

Others decided to poke fun at the whole incident.

One pointed out that Ms Teo may need some help with improving her social media savvy.

On her social media pages, however, no one seems to have taken offence with Ms Teo’s post, and there have only been well-wishes from commenters.
