Singapore — A Twitter user expressed their dismay after someone threw eggs as their family were playing with sparklers for Deepavali.

The eggs, @sham_ugh wrote in their tweet, had come from someone above them.

They posted photos of her family members in festive clothes, enjoying the sparklers together, as well as pictures of the eggs thrown at them.

Commenters were outraged and expressed sympathy to @sham_ugh and their family.

Some commenters voiced their consternation at the racist element in the act.

Sham_ugh told Coconuts that their family could not find who threw the eggs and that they did not report the incident as no one had gotten hurt.

One commenter on the Wake Up, Singapore Facebook page, which shared Sham_ugh’s tweet, wrote, “We need to work hard on the racial harmony part.”

Another wrote, “i miss my old singapore!,” where people got along a lot better.

Yet another commenter wrote that “society’s toxicity and intolerance is rising.”
