A young boy ended up traumatised and afraid of bicycles after a delivery rider knocked him down while alighting a bus at Woodlands.

The boy was getting off a bus stop along Woodlands Avenue 3 on Friday (August 26) when a food delivery rider allegedly collided with him.

According to Chinese language newspaper Shin Min Daily News, the wheel of the rider’s bicycle ran over the boy’s left calf, leaving bloody gashes.

The boy also suffered from bruises and minor injuries on his shoulder.

It was reported that the rider apologised for what happened and quickly checked on the boy. However, the mother claims the rider tried to leave the scene as he had a food order to deliver.

The mother stopped the rider from leaving and asked him for his identity card. When the rider said he didn’t have his ID with him, the mother called the police, who requested an ambulance to attend to the boy.

The 40-year-old mother has since sought compensation from the delivery rider for her son’s medical bill and taxi fare.

A nearby witness to the incident told Shin Min Daily News that the delivery rider didn’t mean to hit the boy who dashed out of the bus to avoid getting wet from the rain.

Intentional or not, the mother noted that the rider still hit someone.

The concerned mother is requesting the delivery rider to pay S$127 for her son’s medical bill and S$18 for the cab fare.

She hoped the rider would reach out to her so they could discuss and settle.

She added that she wouldn’t be going to such extents if the rider had shown more care when the accident happened.

The collision has also traumatised the young boy, who is still afraid whenever he sees a bicycle./TISG
