Singapore ― A man’s body was found dead in the Rochor River on Sunday morning (Oct 10), suspected to be an elderly cardboard collector who often visits the area.

The man’s body was discovered floating in the river near Kallang Road.

Three police cars were spotted at the scene while the area was cordoned off.

The police’s blue tent used to cover dead bodies from the public was also at the scene.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said they were alerted to the case requiring water rescue assistance at around 7:10 am on Sunday.

After SCDF rescuers retrieved the body from the water, the man was pronounced dead at the scene by an SCDF paramedic.

The deceased was identified to be in his 60s, reported Chinese newspaper Lianhe Wanbao.

Those who frequent the area said they would often see the man collecting cardboard around the Jalan Besar area.

A bicycle with a purple basket at the back was found near the riverside. It allegedly belonged to the man.
