A video of an SUV driver endangering other road users by letting his tailgate door hang open to contain a bicycle got netizens commenting on the “crazy” road sightings.

“How can this be allowed?” asked netizen Yizhong, sharing a video on Facebook page ROADS.sg on Saturday (June 11).

The video showed a moving white vehicle with its tailgate or back door completely open.

A bicycle in the boot area apparently prevented the door from closing.

The door could be seen bouncing as the vehicle travelled down the road.

With over 170 comments to date, netizens criticised the driver for endangering other road users.

Facebook user M H Chua highlighted that the bicycle could have fallen on the road, while another said, “Wait till he accidentally go over a hump, and that’s it, the back glass will shatter.”

Many netizens also poked fun at the video, noting the tailgate served as a makeshift spoiler for optimal aerodynamics while driving.

“Got $ for car and bicycle, but no $ to buy a rack. What to do,” commented Facebook user Siew Dai.

“All sorts of clowns on the road. Is there anything new?” added a netizen.

Meanwhile, one Julian Tan noted that the driver could have avoided the incident altogether. “He should be able to knock down the seats in the back row to fit the bike. He’s trying hard to break the traffic rules.”

“Hi Yizhong, since when is it allowed? It’s never allowed ah,” said Facebook user Kim Seng, addressing the original poster. “So if I were you, I’ll just try and find a way to capture the front plate and then report to the authorities who will do their jobs.” /TISG
