Singapore ― An 84-year-old man who passed away from Covid-19 did not even get to see his wife in person before he died.

In a Facebook post by the Happy People Helping People (HPHP) Community on Monday (Oct 11), they wrote that one of their beneficiaries, one Mr Tan had passed away. They added that he lived in Block 5 of Banda Street and had passed away because of Covid-19. Mr Tan is survived by his wife.

The HPHP Community wrote that both Mr and Mrs Tan were admitted to the hospital on Sept 11, and as Mr Tan’s condition deteriorated, his wife was not able to visit him in the hospital to say her final goodbyes. The post added that the Singapore General Hospital (SGH) arranged a zoom call for Mrs Tan to see her husband.

The HPHP Community initiative help many elderly people, and called for those who wished to donate to Mrs Tan to private message (PM) them.

Earlier in October, another one of their elderly beneficiaries had passed away. Mr Hong, a cardboard collector from Toa Payoh Central was struck by illness and hospitalised since August. Mrs Hong, also in her 80s was hospitalised with Mr Hong.

“We’ve always known them to be very close. They are always seen pushing their huge stacks of cardboard boxes to Toa Payoh Industrial Park”, the HPHP community wrote. They also called for donors to provide assistance to Mrs Hong.

For both pairs of the elderly, many people sent their condolences and also reached out to the HPHP Community to help. /TISG
