A man was caught on camera altering the angle of a closed circuit television (CCTV) camera before allegedly removing the gantry arm in Parklane Mall’s carpark to avoid parking fees.
Footage of the incident was uploaded on Facebook page SG Road Vigilante – SGRV on Nov 25, noting the man was driving a Honda Civic with outstanding Land Transport Authority and Housing and Development Board fines.
The video started with the man already standing under the camera pole and redirecting the angle upwards.
Little did he know there was another camera farther away watching his every move. He then walked over to the gantry arm and began pushing it down.
On both occasions, a woman who accompanied the man tried stopping him and redirecting him back to the vehicle. He eventually listened and went back to the car.
The video then showed a screenshot of multiple fines issued to the Honda Civic.
The driver “twisted the camera, breaking the screw and proceeded to push the exit barrier to avoid paying parking fees after drinking in one of the bars/KTVs in Parklane Shopping Mall!” noted SG Road Vigilante – SGRV, quoting the person who submitted the footage.
The video has over 450 comments from netizens urging authorities to put the man to task.
“Wah, all those outstanding fines and still running about. Think authorities and SPF won’t act until someone files an official complaint,” said Facebook user Alex Tay.
Many also noticed the man was drunk and, therefore, not fit to drive in the first place. Others highlighted that he went to great lengths just to avoid the parking fee.
“No brain. He thought still during 80s 90s. Haha. Everywhere camera. Double charge,” added Facebook user Lim Meng Mow.
“Parklane Shopping Mall building management still waiting for what?” asked a netizen, tagging the mall. “Last time JEM charged my friends 4k for a gantry arm.”/TISG
