Man ‘chopes’ Ang Mo Kio parking lot ‘for a long time’ — Netizens point out there’s a big carpark nearby

Singapore — After a man was caught on camera using himself as a way to reserve a parking slot in Ang Mo Kio, members from the online community highlighted that there was a multi-storey carpark nearby, hence no need for such behaviour.

Facebook page ROADS.sg posted a video of the incident on Jan 22, with the cam car driver noting that the man succeeded in reserving the parking slot after “chope-ing the lot for a long time.”

Open letter: Healthcare worker says more leave restrictions will be the final straw for many, “there is only so much we can endure”

Singapore — A healthcare worker penned an open letter to Director of medical services Kenneth Mak on Monday (Jan 25), following the announcement that hospitals may have to “review and adjust” leave policies.

The worker wrote that they had not been able to “take more than 7 days of leave in a row” and that they had been “endlessly working”.

Data scientist proves IMDA’s protection scheme against SMS phishing is still vulnerable to hackers

Singapore — The recent OCBC phishing scam that saw at least $8.5 million stolen from the accounts of 470 customers has prompted calls for tighter security measures to prevent such scams from recurring.

In response, the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) is encouraging more firms to sign up with a pilot programme that is supposed to provide more protection against would-be scammers.

Singapore — In a case of public relations gone slightly awry, DBS Bank got itself into a spot with a netizen on Monday (Jan 25).

The netizen who goes by the name of Suling Tan commented on one of DBS’  Facebook posts: “Please make sure your call centres are manned by locals…”
