“Reminds me of tikam-tikam” Jamus Lim describes how MPs win ballot to deliver speech at end of Parliamentary sessions

Singapore — Workers’ Party Member of Parliament Jamus Lim (Sengkang GRC) gave people a sneak peek into how Parliament works in a Thursday (Oct 28) Facebook post where he explained how his motion was chosen for an upcoming session.

The MP, an associate professor of economics at ESSEC Business School, has raised the issue of taxes in Parliament in the past, specifically bringing up an environmental tax with regard to Singapore Airlines in October of last year.

Singapore EPL footballer accused of breaking national service law

A Singaporean footballer who has signed for Premier League side Wolves has broken the law by failing to register for national service, officials said Friday, meaning he could be jailed.

It is the second such case in Singapore in recent years, and is likely to fuel a debate about whether the city-state’s long-standing conscription system is too strict.

Singapore — Longtime opposition leader and newly-minted restauranteur Chee Soon Juan showed people what he’s up to this weekend, inviting them to the Halloween special at Orange & Teal, the Rochester Mall café he opened with his wife Huang Chih-Mei on June 25. 

Dr Chee, the secretary-general of the Singapore Democratic Party (SDP) and arguably one of the best known Singapore’s political dissidents, fulfilled a lifelong dream this year by opening the café.
