According to a report from the Singapore Meteorological Service on Wednesday, October 16, wet and warm weather is to be expected for the rest of the month.

With the expected increase in rainfall, the likelihood of transboundary is low, meaning that it is unlikely that Indonesia’s haze will blow to Singapore anytime soon.

However, there could be slightly hazy conditions in the early morning on a few days, due to “an accumulation of particulate matter in the atmosphere”, said the Met Service.

Singapore is now in the inter-monsoon period, which means that thundery showers are to be expected.

The report also adds that for the next eight to 10 days, short-duration moderate to heavy thundery showers are forecast in the afternoon.

“The thundery showers can extend into the evening on a few of these days, and can be accompanied by frequent lightning activity,” it added, according to a CNA report.

Meanwhile, warm conditions in the first half of October are expected to continue for the rest of the month, with the daily maximum temperature reaching a high of 35 degrees Celsius on a few days.

On most days, the daily temperature is forecast to range between 25-34 degrees Celsius.

Yesterday, Indonesia warned its citizens of more choking smoke from forest fires as several provinces closed schools due to worsening air quality.

An El Nino weather pattern this year has intensified annual dry-season fires, often caused by slash-and-burn clearing of forests and bush for farming, including plantations.-/TISG
