Singapore ― Taking to social media once again to call out “Cerebral” Covid-19 rules, Makansutra founder KF Seetoh said that in order to show proof of relationship, one would:

“… have to bring along your wedding certs, proof that those little kid are yours (via birth cert i guess, cannot just kiss mummy or papa, or ask kids to say “papa or mama”) and the address and names on the birth cert must tally up”.

Mr Seetoh made reference to Covid-19 dining-in rules where Food and Beverage (F&B) establishments cannot allow gatherings of more than two persons, except when all members of the group are from the same household – this meant that families living in different places of residence are considered not from the same household.

According to Covid-19 directives, “F&B establishments are required to verify customers’ claims that they are from the same household and can reject entry of customers at their discretion”.

To this, Mr Seetoh added: “So, you cannot book tables in an eatery in groups or more than 2. But family members, can, but need verification. And in Sg laws, verification means incontrovertible proof”.

“Of course the onus is on the very tired and manpower deprived eateries to check and verify with proof…or else!!! Then, after checking the IDs, certs and address plus DNA (i thought i read it) , you are still NOT allowed to sit together and must stay one metre away and no mingling. But can mingle in that taxi or MPV on the way to the eatery”, he wrote.

Along with his post, he shared an example of an F&B owner who faced difficult customers.

The F&B owner wrote:

“Where it is obvious that a family unit has come in, we sometimes don’t bother with verifications because how would one provide any verification for children younger than 12 anyway?”

The owner wrote that asking to check addresses and verify that everyone was from the same household “opens us up to challenges, threats and outright nastiness”.

“There isn’t enough info dissemination to the public about this. The onus is solely on the eatery to check and enforce”, the F&B owner added.
