77-year-old Singaporean woman resorts to selling tidbits and tissues to get-by

Facebook user Mohammed Fauzi Mokhtar highlighted the pitiful state of a 77-year-old woman who tries to get-by by selling crackers and tissues. He said that her name was Hjh Alimiah and that she will always be around from late night(sometimes midnight) onwards at Tampines st 21, Safron or Al Azhar coffeeshop.

He said that he lived by herself in the rented flat next to the coffeeshop. Another Facebook user Hafsah Mohammad Kassim who responded to Fauzi’s post said that she lived on the 6th floor of Block 208A Tampines Street 21.

The post has gone viral with over 1,000 shares with several wondering how they may help her, and also asking what the Government had done to assist her. Some also commented that they had given handouts to her in the past and that she was a kind woman, who always offered a smile despite her plight.
