Zachary Lee has alleged that a Land and Transport Authority’s outsourced parking enforcement officer parked his motorcycle right in the middle of the road at the famous Tiong Bahru market to carry out his enforcement actions.

When when vendors confronted him and asked him to move the vehicle to the side of the road so as not to obstruct traffic, the officer allegedly refused to do so, insisting that he had the right to put his vehicle right smack in the middle of the road.

The incident allegedly happened today (30 Aug) at about 11.10am. Posting in the Facebook page of Roads.sg, Zachary said: “nearby stall vendors were seen reasoning with this personnel and requested that he move his motorcycle nearer to the pavement. However, they were given threatening remarks like: “You want to complain, then you go and complaint lah. Why are you all taking photos? I come here everyday you know, I will come everyday and fine your customers’ vehicle that park here, i tell you.””

Just in case you can’t see what the user posted, the following is what he said:

This morning at 11.10am(30 Aug), we witnessed a LTA personnel parking his motorcycle right smack in the middle of the Seng Poh Road (Tiong Bahru Market) and claimed that he have the total right to do so in order to carry out his duty.

Instead of carrying out ‘his duty’, his act caused a jam at this single-lane road, large vehicles faced difficulties passing through as well. Nearby stall vendors were seen reasoning with this personnel and requested that he move his motorcycle nearer to the pavement.

However, they were given threatening remarks like: “You want to complain, then you go and complaint lah. Why are you all taking photos? I come here everyday you know, I will come everyday and fine your customers’ vehicle that park here, i tell you.”

According to the stall vendors, LTA had been sending personnels everyday for the past 3 weeks and business had been greatly affected.

To Singapore LTA, take a look at the personnel you had sent out. Is this how you want your image to be? Being an authorities doesn’t give you the rights to bully stall vendors/road users.

This is not about carrying out specific duties given by the upper level anymore, its about upholding your image and respect that the citizens have for you guys.
