A 25-year-old lorry driver was arrested this morning after three pedestrians were killed in a traffic accident at Ang Mo Kio Ave 8, near Yio Chu Kang MRT, around 9.30am. The lorry reportedly “came hurtling” towards the pedestrians and collided into an SBS Transit Bus, besides hitting the pedestrians.

According to the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), two of the victims had to be extricated from underneath the lorry. All three pedestrians were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver’s father, Mr Xu Hsu Jing, told reporters that his son told him that he suffered sudden vision impairment before the crash occurred: “My son said his vision went blurry and that he couldn’t see anything before the accident happened.”

Mr Xu is still waiting to see his son who has been conveyed to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital “in a serious condition” according to the SCDF. Mr Xu added that the extent of his son’s injuries remain unclear but the police – who have arrested his son for causing death by a negligent act – have interviewed his son and himself.

SBS Transit confirmed that none of the passengers on their bus that was hit by the lorry suffered any injuries even though the front-facing window of the bus had been smashed by the impact of the accident: “Our bus was stationary at a traffic junction when a lorry came hurtling and hit three pedestrians and our bus. None of our passengers were injured. Our hearts go out to the family of the pedestrians.”

  1. He did drove too fast

He claimed to have blurry vision
Only thorough medical check can justify his claim

    3 lives are lost today
My deepest condolences to all deceased families

My mobile phone is in my bag most times while walking
Hope everyone does not to look at phone while walking and stay vigilant

  2. You do realize many of such lorry/ delivery drivers are super reckless on the roads right?..to meet deadlines etc…seen many many times vans/Lorries driving on lane 1 of a 4 lane expressway…but Aiyah…if the LTA/TP can’t give a hoot…who are we to care? LOL!

  3. Your son is obviously speeding and it can be seen that he swerve abruptly to the left and mount the kerb at high speed before knocking down traffic light then the 3 pedestrians.

If he’s blurry , the first thing a driver will do is to slow down and drive to the side of the road and stop the lorry, the lorry wouldn’t have continued for qute a distance and shd have come to a stop sooner rather than later.

Don’t give this kind of lame excuse.

Your son must pay for the 3 innocent lives lost.

    • The father giving excuse for him.
The father have no conscience; 3 people were died.
The spirit of the 3 aggrieved person will haunt the father and son for life.
RIP the 3 victims and to their families let’s offer our sympathy and heart felt condolences.
