Chinese online retailer JD today announced the establishment of its new business group JD Logistics.

Working in the field of supply chain and logistics, the new group will leverage on the company’s “advanced technology and logistics expertise” for businesses across different range of industries.

The service that they provide ranging from warehousing, transportation, delivery, after-sales services, and smart and cross-border logistics.

“In the 10 years since JD launched China’s first B2C logistics network, we have redefined what consumers expect from an e-commerce experience,” said JD Chairman and CEO Richard Liu in a press statement.

“This move is a major step in our vision to make technology even more central to what we do over the next 12 years. Leveraging our unparalleled access to data from every step of the e-commerce process, from ordering to delivery and after-sales service, JD Logistics will use AI, big data and automation to once again redefine the potential of e-commerce logistics. We hope JD Logistics can revolutionise China’s commercial infrastructure and become the global model for smart supply chain solutions,” he elaborated.

It also announced the appointment of Zhenhui Wang, Senior Vice President of JD and Head of Fulfillment Operations, as JD Logistics CEO. Wang will report directly to Liu.

JD claimed to operate 256 warehouses; 6,906 delivery stations; seven fulfillment centres; and pickup stations across China.

In Indonesia, where the company recently celebrated its first anniversary, JD operates its own logistics company Jaya Ekspres Transindo (JX).

It is also looking forward to build five to six new warehouses in the country, where it claimed to achieve 30 to 50 per cent month-on-month growth ever since its launch in late 2015.
